U-Needle was founded in 2008 by J.M. Wissink & UTIV BV (University Twente International Ventures) to bring the university’s microneedle expertise to the market as user-friendly and performant medical devices.
U-Needle employs a variety of people with competences ranging from product design and medical device development to silicon technology development and high volume manufacturing. U-Needle employs the MESA+ Nanolab cleanroom facilities for R&D (ISO5, class 100/1000), technology development and manufacturing. Furthermore, U-Needle has build-up a second clean room manufacturing facility in High Tech Factory (grade C, class 10.000) where microneedle products are being manufactured and packaged.
U-Needle is full-scope ISO 13 485 certified for development, manufacturing and distribution.
University of Twente
At the university, the former Transducers Science and Technology Group, conducted by Prof. Dr. Miko Elwenspoek, is one of the leading groups in the world in the field of MEMS / silicon microneedles.
The MESA+ institute is a world class micro- nano- technology institute, based in Enschede, the Netherlands.
MESA+ features a unique structure, which unites scientific disciplines, and builds fruitful international cooperation to excel in science and education. MESA+ Tech Park is a perfect habitat for new activities in the micro- and nano-industry to establish and to mature.
