U-Needle was founded in 2008 by UTIV BV (University Twente International Ventures) to commercially explore the university’s micro-needle expertise, built since the late nineties by MEMS experts (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) like Tas, Berenschot, De Boer and Gardeniers.
U-Needle employs 5 people (2015) with competences ranging from the design and processing of silicon products to medical device development and business development. The U-Needle team still uses the MESA+ Nanolab cleanroom facilities in Enschede, for its front-end microneedle production and R&D.
University of Twente
At the university, the former Transducers Science and Technology Group, conducted by Prof. Dr. Miko Elwenspoek, is part of the MESA+ and is one of the leading groups in the world in the field of Micro System Technology (MST).
The MESA+ institute is a world class micro- nano- technology institute, based in Enschede, the Netherlands.
MESA+ features a unique structure, which unites scientific disciplines, and builds fruitful international cooperation to excel in science and education.
MESA+ Tech Park is a perfect habitat for new activities in the micro- and nano-industry to establish and to mature. MESA+ is part of the University of Twente and has intensive co-operation with university research groups.
